The second story was on Snow Skiing for the Disabled, a program put
together by Michigan Adaptive Sports. They do not have a web site but

Michigan Adaptive Sports puts on their ski clinics at Pine Knob Ski

clinics coming up in January/February.

16 Thunder Bay, Story 1
Old Fort William This Park comprises 25 acres of historically accurate
reconstruction of an 1815 Fur Trading Post. Old Fort William was not
a military fort but rather a community of residents that provided a
central location for trading along the shores of Lake Superior. Enjoy
the site and historical information while engaging with “townsfolk”
recreating the 1815 experience in both costume and manner. From fur
traders to the town doctor, musicians and innkeepers, Old Fort William

Sail Superior With 25 years of Lake Superior Sailing Experience what
better way to experience the wonder of a sailing voyage for a day or
an extended trip. This beautiful 40 foot ship can accommodate two to

Wilderness Discovery, Inc. Through Handicap Action Group, Inc.
Wilderness Discovery, Camp Shebandowan is a 100% accessible "camp"
that features several cabins and a central lodge. The Camp is located
on Beautiful Lake Shebandowan, Ontario, Canada. Through volunteer efforts
and fundraisers The Handicap Action Group works very hard to provide
an affordable wilderness experience. This camp provides disabled persons

The Proud Equestrian Program, "PEP". Certified disabled instructors
teach horse back riding skills to the disabled from age 5 to 85. Part

Tiger Baseball at Comerica Park. This story featured the accessibility
of Comerica Park. A great place for the disabled to enjoy a ball game.

Michigan Wheelchair Games. The 36th year of the Michigan Wheelchair
Games was host to athletic events such as shot-put, javelin throwing
and of course wheelchair races. This annual event was coordinated by
Diane Winterstein of the Sterling Heights Special Education Department.

MIRA Golf Outing. This years Mental Illness Research Association golf
outing, fundraiser was dedicated to Marion Zender and took place at

The Department of Natural Resources at the Michigan State Fair. Bonnie
Arthur of the Michigan DNR gives Roger and our viewers a first hand
tour of the adaptive and accessible exhibits or activities available
at the Michigan State Fair grounds. The DNR provides adaptive fishing
equipment including pole, tackle and bait and also provides DNR personnel
to provide assistance if needed. The one acre DNR fishing pond is open
to persons with disabilities during regular State Fair hours and extended
hours during the Labor Day Holiday. Mon-Fri Noon - 7pm, Sat. - Sun.

Michigan School for the Blind and Deaf computer and internet "drivers
license" camp. This educational camp for the blind taught students
how to use new screen reading software programs in order to utilize
computers more completely. The software featured was JAWS and Home Page
Reader. The JAWS program is a fully integrated software while the Home
Page Reader software is really a browser program that enables the blind
to "surf the net" and use e-mail. Another new software, developed
by a Michigan programmer, that was not featured is "Scan and Read"
by Premier Programming Solutions. This company now also has full reading
software and should be considered as a purchase option. Check their

barrier free fishing platforms in the Great Lake State. In this story
we featured the Muskegon Harbor State Park fishing peers and Tom told
us about the work the Great lakes Fisheries Trust is doing to make fishing

This story was about the Livingston County Airport Vintage Airplane
Show. We met pilot and Air Traffic Controller Ron Cooper, who told us
about the International Wheelchair Aviators Assoc. The Story featured
vintage aircraft like the B-17, T-28 and Bi-Planes.

The number of senior and disabled drivers continues to grow as our general
population ages. Traffic and community planers need to consider this
change in driver demographics as they prepare for the future. This story
featured a video recently produced by the Traffic Improvement Association
of Oakland County that helps community leaders and planers with considerations
specifically targeted toward this changing driving public.

Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame, "Kick-off Dinner"
This story featured interviews with persons involved with the growth
of the annual Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony.

Beaumont Hospital Field Day is an event for children with disabilities
of all types from ages 2 through 16 years. The event features participation
in a variety of therapy based recreations. Also in this story we learned
about the "Community Connection" efforts in conjunction with
Oakland County Parks this group works to help people with recent disabilities
to transition back into their community lifestyles.

West Bloomfield Community Center 15th annual Fame Games. This story
highlighted the people and events of the 15th annual Fame Games. This
year over 150 athletes with disabilities participated. The events included
Swimming, Track, Basketball, Tennis and Soccer.

The Peer Resource Consultant services of the National Kidney Foundation
of Michigan were featured in a story they provided us. The Peer Resource
Consultant is a person that has experienced renal failure, kidney replacement
surgery, or other kidney and dialysis issues. These consultants are
a valuable resources to those persons currently working through renal
problems as they can provide first hand knowledge and guidance. For

The Oakland-Macomb Center for Independent Living. The Centers for Independent
Living are located throughout Michigan and provide a community outreach
service in the assistance of transition specialties, support groups

Sports Tacular at Camp Dearborn was sponsored by Michigan Adaptive Sports
and Oakland County Parks. This year events included water-skiing, hand
cycling, kayaking, fishing, sailing and canoeing. Also Jim Munson of
TAASC The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition was involved with helping
folks with their first kayak experience.

Community Integration Recreation, CIR. The seventh year of this community
wide event was held in Battle Creek Michigan. This event serves as a
model for other communities interested in developing an inclusional
community recreation program of their own.

Jerry Stackhouse Celebrity Basketball Game. Sponsored by the Rehabilitation
Institute of Michigan. This event showcased the opportunities for persons
with disabilities to participate in sports. Several area celebrities
including Jerry Stackhouse of the Detroit Pistons were on hand to challenge
the Rehab All Stars. Jerry Serizen of the Michigan Thunderbirds helped
the celebrities and encourages people that would like to learn wheelchair

In this segment we spoke with several people regarding the rise in instances
of Autism in children. We Spoke with Senator Leon Stille about a promising
program at Grand Valley State. We also learned about the Autistic Children's
Treatment Network or ACT. Then we spoke with the mother of an affected
child and a psychologist about Applied Behavior Analysis, and early
intervention as part of the process toward recovery. For more information
